The Artists Beneath
Acrylic on Paper, 50 x 70 cm
Born from the ruins of a previous creation—"The Artists Beneath" captures the essence of rebirth through the imprint of hands. These black acrylic marks, pressed repeatedly onto the surface, evoke the artist’s struggle between destruction and creation, leaving behind traces of transformation and raw expression.
This piece emerged from the remains of a “ruined” artwork—originally created with oil pastels, acrylics, and crayons, the surface was marred by an experimental oil fixative that left jarring, uneven traces. What once felt lost became fertile ground for resurrection.
I covered the surface with layers of white and beige gesso, allowing fragmented memories of the original work to peer through, like echoes beneath snow. Then came the hands—my own, dipped in black acrylic—pressed and re-pressed onto the surface in a spontaneous gesture meant to represent the artist’s imprint on the evolving piece.
